COURSE DETAILS
"Start with the Right Hands" begins with the four fundamental strokes of Drums - downstroke, upstroke, tap and full stroke - which are the pillars on which to build one's sonic temple.
As you progress, the course unravels like a story, where each video is a chapter that builds on the previous one. From combinations of sixteenths to the nuances of morphing, Morcavallo is not just teaching, but revealing the hidden language of Drums. With each lesson, the veil lifts a little more, revealing not only how to perform, but how to feel and experience each note.
Morphing becomes the thread that takes us through the complexities of rhythm. It is not just a technique, but a philosophy, a way of thinking and being. Morcavallo shows us how each accent can transform, how each stroke can flow into the other, creating a rhythmic fabric that is as solid as it is ethereal.
Through practical exercises and melodic applications, the course challenges us to overcome our limitations, to find music in moments of transition, to see beauty in complexity. And as we approach the final chapters, we realize that we have learned more than just instrumental mechanics; we have learned a new way to express ourselves through Drums.
START NOW#01 Introduction and exercises for the right hand#01 Introduction to the course.
Gabriele Morcavallo discusses the importance of the fundamentals of playing, even for the most experienced drummers, and introduces the four fundamental strokes: downstroke, upstroke, tap and fullstroke.
#0#02 The grip of the chopsticks.
Gabriele Morcavallo explains how the choice of grip (French, German, American or Traditional) affects the control of the baton bounce.
#03 The shots that start from the top: the downstroke and the fullstroke
The use of fulcrum and controlled free fall of the wand is emphasized, with the fingers cushioning the rebound, which is controlled so as not to receive unwanted vibrations on the arm.
#04 The shots that start from the bottom: the tap and the upstroke
We are familiar with the tap, a stroke that starts and stays low. Proper technique requires handling the vibration of the drumstick rather than crushing the tip on the skin or pad.
#05 Relate the four basic strokes within the rudiments.
Gabriele Morcavallo demonstrates how strokes follow and prepare for each other, with a focus on transitional movements and the concept of "morphing."
#06 Introduction to the innovative concept of "morphing"
How to handle accents and morphing within the note groups of the 15 combinations of sixteenths is shown, exploring how to perform sequences such as 1-2-3, 1-2-4, 1-3-4 and 2-3-4.
#07 The 15 combinations in the sixteenths: accents and morphing in pairs of notes.
The technique of accenting and morphing is explored, with emphasis on note pairs. How to handle accents with two consecutive downstrokes and the importance of preparing strokes with upstrokes are discussed.
#08 The 15 combinations in the sixteenths: accents and morphing in note groups.
The lesson focuses on the groups of notes within the combinations of sixteenths and how to handle accents and morphing within these groups is explained, with a focus on passing the fulcrum between hands for different accents.
#09 Stickings and morphing in phrasing, first steps.
The lesson introduces the concept of phrasing on Drums, providing simple but effective combinations to enrich one's "vocabulary."
#10 Morphing in the triplet
The lecture focuses on morphing as applied to the triplet. Its foundation and how it fits within a quarter, three-note eighth is explained. It is shown how the sequence of strokes changes with accents on different octaves of the triplet.
