START NOW#01 Introduction to the course
The goal of the course is to focus on two aspects that are often overlooked in music: control and pronunciation. Osvaldo emphasizes the importance of these elements, which often take a back seat to other topics such as scales, chords and techniques.
#02 Let's Approach "Finger Rolling"
Osvaldo Lo Iacono explains how this often-overlooked technique is critical to achieving clear pronunciation and precise note control. The video covers various exercises and tips for improving fluency and precision in playing notes on adjacent strings, avoiding interruptions or unwanted overlapping.
#03 "Bending" What a Passion!
Osvaldo explores different aspects of bending, a fundamental technique for making guitar phrasing more expressive and "vocal." The video covers various exercises and tips to improve intonation, control and precision in bending.
#04 The art of "Vibrato"
In this lesson Osvaldo explores the details of vibrato, a technique that aims to make the guitar sound more like the human voice. The video covers various aspects such as the amplitude and speed of vibrato, providing practical exercises to improve control and expressiveness.
#05 But how long do the Notes last?
Osvaldo in this lesson emphasizes the importance and ways of maintaining note duration, especially in lyrical melodies, to distinguish a guitarist with good control of the instrument. The video offers practical exercises to improve finger independence and right hand coordination.
#06 "Slide yes, Slide no?
In the sixth lesson, Osvaldo illustrates how to use the glissato, or "slide," to link two notes or to pit a note. The video offers practical exercises working on single strings, linking joint degrees, and how the glissato can be used in different musical contexts, both ascending and descending, and how it can add expressiveness to phrasing.
#07 "Dynamics" is everything!
In the seventh lesson, Osvaldo explores how the right hand is critical for expressing rhythm and volume, focusing on dynamics and the importance of varying volume within a musical phrase. He then goes through several practical exercises to develop greater control of volume, both using the plectrum and the fingers, and also introduces the technique of hybrid picking.
#08 But what is "Damping"?
Osvaldo talks about the importance of this often overlooked technique for eliminating unwanted notes and noise during phrasing. He illustrates how both left and right hands are involved in damping the strings, contributing to a cleaner, more defined sound. It is peppered with practical exercises and tips on how to use different parts of the hands to achieve the best damping effect, both when using the plectrum and when playing with the fingers.
#09 Let's move on to the "Double Stops"
In the ninth lesson we get to the heart of how to manage dynamics in approaching Double Stops, a technique that can present some difficulties. Osvaldo presents us with practical exercises for playing intervals such as thirds and sixths, both with the plectrum and with the fingers. In addition, the video covers advanced techniques such as "Flame," which involves playing the two notes of the interval slightly offset for a more expressive effect.
#10 Time to merge experiences
Tenth lesson with Osvaldo who gives us a melodic-harmonic guideline and shows how to apply the techniques applied so far in a composition. Osvaldo emphasizes the importance of pronunciation and diction of musical phrases, and introduces the use of reverb as an element of "glue" between harmony and melody. The tutorial is enriched with practical examples on a C major chord progression and offers tips on how to make the progression interesting melodically.
#11 The use of "leverage" as a creative tool.
In this lesson we switch to a moving bridge guitar, and Osvaldo orients the focus on how to use leverage to enhance melodic lines. He explains how the lever can be used in various ways, from a delicate and intimate approach to a more extreme one. Plus practical exercises on how to use the lever on chords and single notes, with emphasis on controlling intonation and returning the lever to its rest position.
#12 Conclusions and working tools
Finally, here we come to the epilogue! The video summarizes the main goal of the course: to improve the guitarist's control of the instrument and expressive ability. Osvaldo Lo Iacono emphasizes the importance of emotions in music and how they can only be effectively conveyed through accurate control of the instrument. He also invites the audience to work mindfully on the exercises, both melodically and harmonically, emphasizing that only control and awareness can lead to true expressive freedom.
